Subject: Season's greetings
Merry Christmas,
Happy New Year and an auspicious Id-ul-Fitr to all,
For those who don't know, the end of the Muslim month of Ramzan (Ramadan)
finishes with Id-ul-Fitr on December 27 this year, making the coming
week a big one for season's greetings in more parts of the world. Of
course in India, there's been a postal strike for almost 2 weeks which
has thrown a spanner in many people's works, not least the greeting
card sellers.
It's very different being in Varanasi Christmas - I know that in so
many other parts of the world the advertising and hype have been going
on for weeks by now. Here it's basically as if there is no Christmas.
I think Id-ul-Fitr is certainly going to make much more of an impact,
when those piles of goat carcasses start piling up in the streets.
My life has started again - I'm now healthy after my bout with hepatitis
A. Back into the practice and feeling like my time is worthwhile again.
I'll be here for another couple of weeks before I head to Kathmandu
around January 4 in order to get a new Indian visa.
I hope everyone has a wonderful festive season, whether you'll be with
families or heading to Woodford Folk Festival (you lucky devils!).
Love to all,
Shen
